What does a girl think about during her Polish grammar lessons
He will appear on the thirteenth of November. Or
whenever.
He will come off a photograph of an illustrated magazine
in tight shorts that he recommends for the summer.
Or off a screen. With the dusk of Godard
and with a wild rose that will substitute the dubbing for us.
We will drive to an island
whose sketch we will have added onto a map.
A shared room in a hotel will sway
like a ship in the clouds.
Which one of us will save oneself?
(The girl accedes to that thought
with a life- buoy
at her heart)
The teacher wears red socks
on her legs demonstratively drawn forward.
As though she had understood the advantage of time
and the gravity of thought.
Imagination on alert. Percussion of the heart.
